The 2007 Rotary Dragon Boat Team made an impressive showing! The Rotary team finished 1st in the Non Profit Divison and finished third in the overall standings. To put an exclamation point on the effort our 2007 team posted the fastest time ever recorded in the two year history of Dragon Boat Races in the Tri Cities at 1 minute 12 seconds and some change.
Team captain Mitch Meredith credits the team's success to hard work in the practice sessions.
Also noteworthy in this year's race was the participation of numerous Rotarians on other Dragon Boat teams to which they had work, alumni, or other affiliations with. Of particular note, the efforts of team captain Ben Berry and the Johnson City club's seargant at arms, Mike Mefford, on the overall championship boat of Milligan college.
In the final analysis the Dragaon Boat Races are not about who wins or loses. Rather, they are about raising money for a worthy cause, The Children's Hospital. Whenever and wherever there is a worthy cause, you will find Rotarians front and center putting the motto of "service above self" into practice.
