What Is The Process

What Is The Process For Bringing In A New Member?

1.  Membership is by invitation only.

2.  An active member shall submit the name and information of a prospective member to the Board Secretary / Treasurer, in writing, using the Membership Proposal form.

3.  The Secretary / Treasurer sends this form to the Classification Committee to make sure there is an unfilled classification on the roster and that the prospective member's business or profession is covered by that classification.

4.  The form then goes to the Membership Committee to evaluate the prospective member's character, business and social standing and general eligibility.

5.  To avoid any possible embarrassment, the prospective member is not aware of these investigations and the name is kept confidential throughout this preliminary procedure.

6.  The Membership Committee appraises the prospective member on these five points:

Is the reputation of the prospective member's firm above reproach?

Is the reputation of the prospective member's firm exemplary?

Is the prospective member "Service" minded?

Can the prospective member meet the financial obligation (dues, charity funds, etc.) of belonging to Rotary?

Can the prospective member attend meetings regularly, making up at other clubs as necessary?

7.  If these reports are favorable and the Board approves the prospective member, the proposer contacts the prospective member describing the many benefits that Rotary offers it's members and what Rotary expects in return.

8.  The prospective member is then asked whether he or she would like to become a member of the club and, if so, if he or she is willing to have his or her name and classification published tothe club members.

9.  Next, the prospective member fills out the Membership Application form.

10. The prospective member's name, business and classification are printed in the club's bulletin, "The Rotator."  If no written objections are received by the board within seven days, the prospective member is accepted as a full member as soon as he or she pays the initation fee and is oriented by members of the orientation committee.  His or her name is reported to RI and District 7570 by the Secretary / Treasurer.

11. If a club member objects, the board considers the case and votes on whether the prospective member is to be elected to membership.

12. The finale comes when the prospective member is formally introduced by his or her sponsor and is inducted as a new member at a regular meeting of the club.
